Sailfish, Sailfish, Sailfish 12-22-12

Posted by on December 26, 2012

The first strong winter cold front pushed through last Friday and so did the Sailfish.  The winds were out of the North West at a steady 28 knots !  SeasSailfish fishing Miami - Jumping Sailfish at the side of the Spellbound were at about 3 -5 foot with a strong North current.  The hard current edge was in about 200′ of water and we were finding fish in about 180 foot of water.  We releases two Sails & two Silky Sharks in the morning and we were in by 10 am.  The afternoon bite was just as good catching a few Sails and seing quite a few others.

Most of the Sails were quite large, averaging almost 7 foot long.  We caught the Sailfish on live small Bonita and live Mullet.  We slow trolled the live baits on 20lb conventional and spinning rods.  The action was hot, the air was cold, the wind was blowing & the seas were turbulent.  That’s wintertime Sailfish Fishing at its best !  See you on the rip…
